47 Directed Portfolio
The directed portfolio is an alternative to the thesis in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Master of Arts degree with a non-thesis option. The directed portfolio is an individually supervised, unified collection of multiple components that includes intensive revision of a paper or papers from previous coursework and other elements as determined by the M.A. emphasis area to demonstrate an appropriate breadth of knowledge and sophistication of writing. Please see How do I complete a Directed Portfolio? on the Graduate Student Resources webpage.
The portfolio may take the form of either a portfolio project as described in the Language and Writing Studies emphasis (applicable only to that emphasis) or a portfolio project as described in the Literary Studies and all other remaining emphases. All portfolios require revision of selected course paper(s), research about publication options, and reflection on the revision process.
