Gen Ed English Program Philosophy

Program Philosophy

An image of a cat sleeping on books is ringed by the following text, "Program Coherence," "Faculty Autonomy," and "Student Engagement." This is the program philosophy for MT Gen Ed English.

The General Education English program is committed to Program Coherence, Faculty Autonomy, and Student Engagement. The philosophy is undergirded by the belief that faculty and students do their best work with support and freedom. Faculty are encouraged to draw on individual strengths in the classroom while simultaneously meeting course objectives, using high impact practices, and drawing on innovative pedagogies. Students are challenged to take risks and build essential knowledge and skills in the MTSU True Blue Core areas of Written Communication, Information Literacy, and Intercultural Understanding.
