5.0 Identifying Disciplinary Insights

Introduction

An integral step of the interdisciplinary research process is identifying insights into a complex problem. Module 5 provides guidance on how to recognize and compare insights from different disciplinary perspectives. After completion of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Define the term ‘insight’ as it relates to disciplinary expertise
  2. Determine an author or source’s disciplinary perspective
  3. Locate and evaluate insights in non-scholarly publications
  4. Explain how an insight contributes to your understanding of a complex problem
  5. Use feedback to refine a research problem statement
