Module 2: Academic Disciplines

2.5 Developing an Appropriate Research Problem

Selecting a topic can be something students struggle with. If you don’t already know your topic, the MTSU Library has created a video that shares some resources for finding a topic. Just remember that your topic needs to be connected to one of the disciplines you have studied.

Next is an excellent video to watch before you finalize your topic. It discusses how to narrow your topic. Don’t forget that your instructor is also a resource. You can share your potential topic or research question with them before you submit your assignment! Need help finding a topic for a research paper? MTSU Librarians have lots of ideas!
